Academic Success

The key to success starts with a solid education and students do better in school when they spend non-school hours engaged in academically focused activities. Our programs provide Club members with the knowledge and skills they need to graduate from high school on time, equipped with the technical skills, tools, and resources to pursue their interests and prepare them for college, trade school, and employment.

Healthy Lifestyles

These health and wellness programs encourage Club members to adopt healthy eating habits, practice good decision-making, develop healthy relationships, and make a lifelong commitment to physical fitness.

Passport to Manhood focuses on a specific aspect of manhood through highly interactive discussions and activities that reinforce positive behavior.

SMART Girls combines informational and experiential learning activities to enhance girls’ physical and emotional health, and develop knowledge and skills to practice healthy lifestyle choices.

Healthy Habits teaches young people about the benefits of developing healthy eating habits and being physically active both at the Club and at home, and making steps toward positive behavior changes.

Rooted in the belief that food is medicine, CHEF is a Culinary Health Education Program that teaches children and families basic nutrition and practical cooking skills, with the long-term goal of motivating individuals and communities to adopt and sustain healthier eating habits.

Team sports encourage youth to increase their overall fitness and health while learning the fundamental skills of team sports, including basketball, volleyball, flag football, and baseball.

Power Hour provides homework help, tutoring, academic skill building, and collaborative learning activities to encourage self-directed learners.

Young Achievers is an award-winning, comprehensive college preparatory program that provides participants with a complete understanding of the college admissions and financial aid process before they enter high school.

Career Launch is designed to support youth as they prepare for their first job, internship, summer employment, and more.

DIY STEM is a hands-on, activity-based STEM program that connects youth to science themes they encounter in everyday life.

Money Matters promotes behavior-changing financial education to help teens get on the path toward budgeting, saving and investing, planning for postsecondary education, and financial freedom.

Diplomas 2 Degrees is a college readiness program that provides a range of services to guide Club members through high school graduation and make plans for post-secondary education and career success.

The evidence is clear, participation in the arts significantly improves academic success, creativity, motor skills, confidence, and critical thinking. BGCNV offers Club members access to ballet, Children’s Chorus, and the National Fine Arts Program as part of their club membership.

As Club teens expand their leadership skills and look to life beyond the Clubhouse, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio Scholarship Fund provides Members scholarships to help them further their education and pursue their passions in life.

Character and Leadership

We believe that developing America’s next generation of engaged citizens starts today. These programs focus on cultivating good character and leadership skills, and offer Club members the opportunity to give back to their community through service projects.

Youth of the Year is the signature leadership development program that celebrates the lives of teen club members who have overcome incredible odds to make a significant impact on their family, friends, and community. With one-on-one mentors, teens receive training in public speaking, essay writing, and team building all leading to the final competition and the title of Youth of the Year.

SMART Moves is a small group program with age-appropriate modules to help build resiliency in youth to meet the many challenges they face daily, and strengthen their positive development.

Keystone is a dynamic teen program that provides youth with valuable leadership and community service experiences.

Junior Staff focuses on career and soft-skill development​, apprenticeships, and community service through work-based learning as staff support for BGCSA.

Torch Club is a leadership and service club for younger adolescents to learn how to plan and implement service activities, health and fitness, and social recreation.
